Most people search abroad for ideas for their summer holidays. However, the UK has some incredible places to visit that are sat right under our nose. Here is a list of our favourite ‘alternative attractions’ that aren’t always in the holiday conversation, but should be!

Harry Potter Studio Tour

The Harry Potter Studio Tour is located in London and is an absolute must-visit for any fans of the wizarding world. The walking tour takes you behind the scenes of the creation of Harry Potter, Hogwarts and beyond! You will get the opportunity to see many of the film’s most famous props including Harry’s broom: The Nimbus 2000. You will also get the chance to wander inside The Great Hall, Hagrid’s Hut and to see the iconic Hogwarts Express!

Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo is one of the most famous zoos in the entire country and for good reason. It is home to more than 400 species of animal and is the perfect day-trip for the whole family. Some of the animals here include Cheetahs, Black Rhinos, Buffalos and almost everything in between. There are also regular shows and displays that will allow the younger ones (and older ones!) to get closer to their favourite animals.

Blackpool

Blackpool Tower

Blackpool Tower is one of the most iconic seaside monuments in the whole of the UK. For decades now it has been the centrepoint of the seaside resort and remains to this day one of its best attractions. Take a trip to the summit 518ft in the air and soak up the very best panoramic view in town. There is also the famous Ballroom, Dungeon and Circus to enjoy as well as the fantastic town of Blackpool itself.

Legoland

Legoland Windsor

This is by far one of the best attractions to take the younger ones in your family to and is a great day-out if you are looking for something slightly different this summer. Legoland Windsor is Lego Heaven and features a number of rides and attractions including Viking River Splash, Pirate Falls Treasure Quest and the Lego City Driving School. There is so much to do and explore that usually a couple of days out here are required!

Alton Towers

Alton Towers

Alton Towers continues to be one of the best theme-parks in the UK and by extension, one of the best days out for the whole family. With over 50 rides and attractions for guests of all ages, it is no surprise that young and old flock here in their thousands each and every year. Oblivion and Nemesis are two of the most famous for their adrenaline-pumping nature… will you dare to ride them?

World of Cadburys

Every child’s dream is to visit Willy Wonka’s famous chocolate factory. Although we might not be able to provide you with a golden ticket to get you there, we have certainly got the next best thing lined up. The chocolatey world of Cadbury is located in Birmingham and is the perfect ‘alternative’ day-trip with the family. Get a full tour of the history of chocolate making, how it is manufactured today and perhaps most importantly - free samples at the end!
