Killarney is a dream destination for the outdoorsy type of traveller, with plenty of things to do in the great outdoors. And of course, no visit to Killarney is complete without a horse-drawn jaunting car ride through the park. It's a bit touristy, but it's a classic for a reason - the views from the carriages are absolutely stunning.

Take a stroll down High Street and pop into some of the local shops and pubs to get a sense of the town's history and character. And if you're a history buff, be sure to visit Muckross House and Gardens, a 19th century mansion that offers a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the landed gentry.

As for when to visit, there's never a bad time to visit Killarney. Each season offers its own unique charm - the lush greenery of spring, the warmth and long days of summer, the colourful autumn foliage and the crisp winter days. However, if you're looking to avoid the crowds, we'd recommend visiting in the shoulder seasons of spring or autumn.

If you're flying from the UK, you'll likely land in either Shannon or Dublin and then take a bus or train to Killarney to get there via the most direct route. The trips range from 2 hours to 4 hours respectively so we definitely recommend either renting a car or getting a connecting shuttle bus to the town.
