Windsor is an historic market town in Berkshire, site of the much visited castle that is one of the Queen's official residences. Only twenty three miles west of London, it is an extremely popular tourist attraction. Both the town and the surrounding countryside are a great choice for a short break. Oldest inhabited castle in the world

Dating from the eleventh century, the castle is both the largest and the oldest inhabited castle in the world. The baroque interiors of the state rooms were created during the reign of Charles the Second and were renovated by George the Third and Fourth. The castle houses a significant art collection and receives almost a million visitors each year.

St. George's Chapel, the burial place of several English monarchs is a superb example of gothic architecture. Those attracted to miniatures will enjoy Queen Mary's dolls house, dating from early last century. Its size and its detailed contents make it a house beyond compare. If you time your visit well, at eleven each morning, you can watch the changing of the guard.

Attractions in the area include Eton, with its famous boys' school, which lies across the Thames from Windsor and is connected to it via a footbridge. Its High Street has many old buildings including those with timber frames from the fifteenth century. Other attractions include Legoland and Ascot race course.
